Shahnaz Jamal
Founder & Principal

Shahnaz received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology from the University of British Columbia and her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary.  Shahnaz is a Lawyer and an Alternate Dispute Resolution Professional, holding certifications as Mediator, Arbitrater, and Parenting Coordinator.

After articling with a national law firm, Shahnaz was called to the bar in both British Columbia and Alberta, and has been practicing for over 20 years, 17 years predominantly in the area of Family Law. Shahnaz focuses on all aspects of Family Law (pre-nuptial/marriage agreements, divorce, separation agreements, custody, access, and other parenting arrangements) with a view to resolving disputes for her clients.

Matt Rowan

Matt joined Jamal Law Group as an Associate Lawyer in 2024 after completing their articles under the mentorship of an award-winning civil litigator and two of the most experienced criminal defence lawyers in the province. They graduated from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC in 2022 with a Specialization in Law & Social Justice. Prior to attending law school, they completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Cognitive Systems from UBC, during which they co-authored a biopsychology paper and participated extensively in on-campus organizations such as the AMS’s Resource Groups, coordinating events and providing funding to initiatives for diverse and marginalized students.

Robin K. Dhaliwal

Robin is a dedicated family, wills, and civil litigation lawyer who is driven by her passion to advocate and assist individuals in need. Robin obtained her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria and her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with Honours from the University of Birmingham. During law school, Robin served as the Vice President of Moot Court Competitions and volunteered with the Refugee and Asylum Legal Clinic by offering legal advice to low-income individuals.

Deepika K. Sivia

Deepika began her legal journey in 2017 by gaining experience as a legal assistant and paralegal in civil litigation, personal injury, wills and estates, and real estate law. Deepika earned her law degree from the University of Leicester and served as a volunteer with the university’s pro bono society for ‘AMICUS USA’, an organization advocating for those who received the death penalty due to lacking proper legal representation. After receiving her law degree, Deepika completed her articles in family law, child protection, and child custody in Kelowna, BC, and was called to the British Columbia bar in 2024.

Kanika Bajaj

Kanika is a dual-licensed lawyer, duly admitted and in good standing with the Bar Council of Delhi, India, and the Law Society of British Columbia, Canada. She is a dedicated and experienced lawyer who began her legal journey 13 years ago in India. She was inspired by her eldest sister, who was one of the counsels in a landmark family law case before the Supreme Court of India that introduced a new ground for divorce in the country. Motivated by a strong desire to be a voice for the voiceless, Kanika followed in the footsteps of her two elder sisters, both of whom are lawyers in India, and committed herself to the legal profession with a strong sense of purpose and justice.

Stephanie works closely with and alongside her Principal, Shahnaz Jamal. Stephanie has worked in the area of family law for over 27 years. She completed her training as a Legal Assistant in 1996 and obtained her diploma as a Paralegal in 2003 from Capilano University. Stephanie has experience with all levels of the court system and alternative dispute resolution: she has appeared in Supreme Court and Provincial Court on interim applications, judicial case conferences, family case conferences, registrar hearings, and settlement conferences; she has assisted her principals in preparing submissions, arguments, affidavits, applications, and pleadings for all levels of court, including the BC Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada; and she has prepared files for and attended arbitrations.

Elizabeth Jackson

As the firm’s part-time Human Resources Director, Elizabeth oversees the Human Resources strategy. This includes recruitment, compensation, performance management, communication, learning and development, and health and wellness. With more than 30 years of experience within the professional services, financial/banking, and retail sectors, Elizabeth also runs a successful HR consulting firm. Additionally, Elizabeth is a seasoned director who presently serves on the Board of Governors for the Chartered Professional Accountants’ of BC Education Foundation. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University and the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
